What it does:
RelishTheDish – as the name suggests – is shifting focus from the restaurant to the dish itself. Users can search for specific dish items around their area, rate and review dishes, save a history of what they like, recommend dishes directly to other people via e-mail or on RelishTheDish, enter their likes and dislikes that allow better personalized food recommendations.

How it beats the competition:
The competition is focusing on the restaurant – reviewing, rating and recommending restaurants – which means users usually have to wade through many reviews to find out what’s good at the restaurant. By focusing on the dish, we’re making it more efficient to decide which restaurant to go to based on what’s available and popular at the restaurant.

RatedDishes.com – A social network for food lovers

What it does:
RatedDishes allows you to keep an ‘eating-out’ journal and share your food opinions for individual dishes served at restaurants in the UK. It is a fully-searchable (and colourful!) database of dishes, annotated with people’s ratings and comments.

Over time, we hope that it will become the canonical guide to restaurants in the UK.

How it beats the competition:
RatedDishes has a narrow focus: pictures and ratings of individual dishes. It is the research tool if you’re about to go out for dinner !
